New conference explores spiritual diversity

In keeping with Crestone’s community identity and values, the 2nd annual Sacred Peaks Enlightenment Conference will be an exploration of consciousness and spiritual diversity. Crestone is Colorado’s hidden jewel, nestled at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Range in southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley.

The conference will be held October 5-7 at various spiritual centers throughout Crestone and the Baca Grande with teachers from the local community participating.

Group dialogue, meditation and teachings will be the focus throughout the weekend, along with visits to many of Crestone’s sacred sites and spiritual centers – including: temples, shrines, churches, stupas, labyrinths and healing centers. The idea for the conference came when the Crestone Area Visitors Agency (CAVA) envisioned a gathering that would bring together many of Crestone’s leading spiritual teachers for open dialogue with the community and with seekers drawn to Crestone from other parts of the country and the world. “We see the conference as a seeding ground for multi-faith thought to blossom as we draw on the rich diversity that makes Crestone so unique.” Cal Cali said. “We plan to make this an annual event, and it will grow each year with new participants and themes.”

Participating centers and teachers for the 2007 gathering include the Academy of On with Steve Beard, the Carmelite Monastery with Father Eric Haarer, Desert Foundation with Father Dave Denny, Haidakhandi Universal Ashram with Ramloti, Pundarika Foundation, Sacred Passage & The Way Of Nature Fellowship with John Milton, Shumei Institute International, Dharma Ocean Foundation, Vajra Vidya Retreat Center. Additional spiritual centers will be announced on our website.

Open dialogue sessions with the teachers are scheduled at the opening and end of the conference: 6-9 p.m. on Friday, October 5, and 4-6:30 p.m.on Sunday, October 7. Both sessions will be at the Colorado College Conference Center. Other sessions will take place at the spiritual centers around town.
