Many people travel great distances to experience the relaxing
and healing properties of geothermally heated mineral water.
It is said that the Native Americans enjoyed this pastime
as a way to rejuvenate themselves
both physically and spiritually. One of the San Luis Valley's most coveted
hot springs is Joyful Journey Hot Springs Spa on the North end of the valley.
Once, it was the township of Mineral Hot Springs, and has over the years become
one of the favorite stop overs for "spa hoppers" from all over the U.S. and
certainly a favored dipping site for San Luis Valley locals.
The
geothermal springs that feed this elegant little spa
boast of a high boron and lithium content in water that flows
out at about 140¼ and is regulated daily by hand to three
tiled pools at about 98¡ in the coolest pool to about
108¼ in the hottest. The
pools are never treated with chemicals, and unlike other
mineral spas,
they are cleaned nightly to insure a sparkling cleanliness
not seen in most facilities.
But that's not all. There is plenty of lodging including tipis and campsites
for tents and RVs. The spa has some of the best massage therapists in the valley,
with treatments ranging from exfoiliation and massage, to the more exotic Raindrop
therapy, Shiatsu, and Hot Stone therapy. The combination of the healing properties
of the water and a therapeutic massage lends itself toward holistic health that
is the definitive goal of Joyful Journey's philosophy of well being.
The entire staff at our center
reflect this philosophy. Here you will find a calm and nurturing environment
with people dedicated to a
natural approach
of
health and centeredness.
